Somerset man rescued after driving vehicle into flooded roadway

A Somerset man was rescued by Deputies from Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office after his vehicle drove into a flooded roadway that was several feet deep Sunday morning, Feb. 24.

It happened around 10 AM at the intersection of Slate Branch Road and Madera Drive in Souther Pulaski County. Deputies responded to a 911 call of a partially submerged vehicle with one occupant in it.

The occupant in the black 1995 Buick was unable to free himself from the vehicle.

Deputies quickly removed their gear and made their way into the water. They managed to escort him to the dry ground.

The vehicle operator was identified as 83 year old Lars C. Gudal of West Cliff Court, Somerset. Gudal was examined by EMS personnel and was treated for mild hypothermia and transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for further evaluation.

Gudal told officers that he failed to turn around after seeing the “Road Closed” sign because he did not think that the water was that deep.
