The Madison County Board of Education held a tax hearing and regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, August 25. The tax hearing was held first. The board approved a tax rate of 62.1 cents per $100 dollars of assessed real estate value and 63.8 cents per $100 dollars on personal property.
This is the second year in a row the board has lowered the tax rate for assessed real estate values. The previous tax rate for the 2021-2022 academic year was 62.7 cents per $100 of assessed value. In 2020-2021 the school board set the tax rate at 63.7 cents per $100
In other business, the board approved the following items:
• Madison Central High School baseball trip to Niceville, FL, April 1-4,2 023
• Purchase order for Illuminate Education, commonly known as EduClimber for $64,754.58.
• Purchase to replace wireless infrastructure, installation and configuration in elementary and middle schools. The board is receiving a discounted rate of $80,000 in comparison to the full rate price of $400,000.
• One emergency teacher certification for a science teacher at Caudill Middle School.
