A traffic stop in Estill County Saturday led to a high-speed pursuit and officer involved shooting in neighboring Powell County.
An Irvine Police officer initiated the stop on 44-year-old Summer Arvin of Irvine, knowing her license was suspended. The traffic stop was made near the car wash in north Irvine around 4 p.m. Arvin reportedly stopped, but then put the vehicle in reverse, before fleeing at speeds of over 90 mph according to police. Arvin passed dozens of vehicles, nearly hitting two oncoming vehicles head on.
The pursuit continued into Powell County where the subject ran the pursuing officer off the road on Little Brush Creek Road. Both vehicles were then stopped when Police say Arvin pointed a gun at the officer. After repeated verbal warnings, the officer fired several shots. Arvin then fled the vehicle into some nearby woods, where she soon gave herself up without further incident. State Police confirmed Arvin was struck once in the shoulder.
She was treated for minor injuries at a local facility and released.
Arvin was booked Saturday evening at Three Forks Regional Jail in Beattyville on numerous charges.
Kentucky State Police Post 8 is investigating the officer involved shooting aspect of the arrest.
