Richmond’s assistant tourism director arrested for burglary, other charges

The assistant director of Richmond Tourism was arrested Sunday and is now facing charges of 1st degree burglary, terroristic threatening and tampering with evidence.

Richmond Police arrested 42-year-old David Jones after they responded to a call from the person who lives in the apartment below Jones around 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to the police report, the caller stated Jones beat on his door loudly, and after no one answered, the caller said Jones entered the apartment through the closed but unlocked front door. Once inside, the caller alleged Jones began yelling at them, complaining their fan was too loud. Jones then brandished a holstered firearm from behind his jacket and told the victim “Not to make me come back.”

Jones denied having a firearm when questioned by police and said the neighbor’s door was already opened and he just stepped in to keep the complainant’s dog from getting out. According to the citation, Jones finally let police into his own apartment where they found a gun and holster matching the victim’s description. They also found the victims ring doorbell that Jones said accidently fell off. Police were able to recover footage of the camera, which showed Jones kicking the ring doorbell across the parking lot.

Responding officers say that Jones also admitted to drinking 4-5 large beers prior to the incident.

Jones was arrested and taken to the Madison County Detention Center.
