Early yesterday morning, Laurel Sheriff’s interdiction unit arrested two individuals early Tuesday morning April 5, 2022 around 3:00 AM. The arrests occurred in the parking lot of a motel in London while deputies were checking subjects in their white Nissan Altima, where it was learned that an occupant in the vehicle had an active felony warrant for her arrest.
During the investigation, officers state, a hypodermic needle fell from the lap of the female suspect onto the ground. The male driver then fled on foot. Following a short foot chase, the male suspect was detained, and deputies found three bags in possession of the driver containing suspected heroin, ecstasy, and marijuana. Further investigation revealed this individual was determined to be wanted by the US Marshal’s service as a fugitive. This individual also had an active indictment warrant.
During the period of time that the deputies were chasing the male suspect, the female suspect also fled, where she was later found by London Police Officer Joey Robinson in a nearby motel, hiding in the bathroom. This woman was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine, a glass smoking pipe, and digital scales. Combs was also determined to be wanted on two outstanding bench warrants.
Arrested on the scene were:
Davon Jamar Blackford age 41 of Marietta Dr., Lexington, KY charged with fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot; resisting arrest; and several drug and trafficking charges. Blackford was also charged as a wanted fugitive wanted by the US Marshal service and on a Fayette Circuit Court indictment warrant of arrest, charging persistent felony offender.
Also arrested was Melissa L Combs Age 44 of Lake St., Richmond, KY. She was also charged with fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot; trafficking in a controlled substance – first offense –numerous drug and trafficking charges, Combs was also charged on outstanding warrants in Perry and Letcher Circuit Courts for other drug related charges.
According to officers, the pair were found with approximately 3,000 counterfeit Xanax pills and were and were lodged in the Laurel County correctional center. The Laurel Sheriff’s interdiction unit made the arrests, Justin Taylor along with Deputy Tommy Houston, Deputy Bo Harris, and Deputy James Sizemore.
