Richmond police Chief Rodney Richardson, members of the Richmond Police Department, the Ellis family, and others held the annual wreath ceremony this morning to honor fallen Richmond police officer Daniel Ellis, who died in the line of duty seven years ago today.
Ellis was searching for a suspect in an armed robbery, which led him to an apartment in the city. When the officer entered the apartment, he was ambushed and shot by the subject. Officer Ellis succumbed to his injuries two days later, at the young age of 33.
Raleigh Sizemore, the man convicted for the death of officer Ellis was sentenced to Life without the possibility of parole, an accomplice Gregory Ratliff was sentenced to 30 years in prison, 20 years for wanton murder and five years each for two first degree wanton endangerment charges.
