A Richmond Police officer was dispatched to investigate a disturbance in the Merrick Drive area on Saturday. As the official was traveling to the scene, they located the male subject reportedly causing the disturbance leaving the area.
30 year-old Jim Asher reportedly fled from police, despite several attempts to establish communication. Asher circled back around to the Merrick Drive area, where several people were standing in the driveway. This allegedly caused panic among children and alarm for adults nearby.
The officer eventually detained the suspect and placed him on the ground. According to authorities, Asher resisted the arrest by keeping his hands underneath his abdomen. Another RPD officer arrived to the scene, allowing the arrest to be completed.
As Asher was being escorted to the cruiser, he was allegedly swearing and threatening officers by saying “I will kill all of you.” Police say Asher attempted to headbutt the arresting officer as he was being placed into the vehicle. According to the citation, Asher continued making death threats towards the official while being transported to the Madison County Detention Center.
Asher was charged with Public Intoxication, 2nd Degree Disorderly Conduct, 2nd Degree Evading Police, Resisting Arrest, 3rd Degree Assault, Menacing, and 3rd Degree Terroristic Threatening.
