The city of Richmond will be joining other cities as they plan to add flock cameras to at least 4 different locations within the city. Richmond Police Assistant Chief BJ O’Donnell told WBONTV that the
cameras will be placed strategically near the interstate to monitor traffic coming in and out of Richmond to help identify robberies and other thefts and that these cameras can help point out specific characteristics on vehicles such as a license plate or a mark on the car to better facilitate in the arrests of the criminals. No date has yet to be determined on when the cameras will be installed but Officer O’Donnell did say it would take several weeks.
In order to purchase these cameras RPD had to budget the funds and according to Officer O’Donnell these cameras will only be used to help in crimes such as robberies or thefts, they will not be used for traffic enforcement.
