A Richmond man was recently arrested following an alleged domestic assault that took place at an Iva Drive residence.
According to the arrest citation, a juvenile subject ran to a neighboring house and told them that they needed police at their home. When officers arrived, they discovered that 49 year-old Jose Cabrera was being kept inside a bathroom by another male subject. Cabrera was reportedly extremely intoxicated.
Police say that the male subject told them that he was keeping Cabrera in the bathroom, due to his agitated state. According to Cabrera, the assault victim approached him with a knife, so he “punched [them] to keep [them] away”. He also stated that the juvenile subject may have gotten pushed in the process, but that it was not intentional. Authorities say that the juvenile had an abrasion and cut on their leg.
Officers canvassed the house, where they discovered a door that appeared to be punched in, as well as blood on another door. The victim admitted that Cabrera punched them in the face and broke their phone.
According to the victim, this was part of an attempt to prevent them from leaving the house. It was at this point when they sent the juvenile to the neighboring house to use the phone.
Cabrera was arrested and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center where he was charged with two charges of 4th Degree Assault.
