Recently during the late night hours, the Richmond Police Department received a call regarding alleged drug activity in a room at the Relax Inn on Northgate Drive.
Upon arrival, police report knocking on the door of the room and witnessing 36 year old Derrick Brown through the curtains move towards the area where the air conditioner would be. Police report speaking to the renter of the room and she reportedly seemed paranoid about Brown in the room. She stated she didn’t know the individual according to the citation. Police asked for permission to search the room, where they then made contact with Brown.
Officers searched the area of the air conditioner and report locating a $1 bill inside the wall right beside the air conditioner with 2 baggies that contained suspected methamphetamine as well as a lottery ticket that matched tickets that were in Brown’s belongings.
Brown was read his Miranda rights, but advised officers the substance was not his. Brown was then arrested and transported to the Madison County Detention Center where he was lodged.
