A Richmond man is now behind bars after reportedly sexually assaulting a victim in Madison County. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office report responding to the incident on Monday April, 15th.
The initial investigation resulted in a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner test being completed at a local medical facility on the victim. The case led police to 46 year-old Edward Newton of Richmond. DNA was collected from Newton and was sent to the KSP Laboratory Rapid DNA section in Frankfort. Lab technicians qualified the case and within a month, detectives issued an arrest warrant for Newton.
Newton was arrested on Tuesday May 30th by Kentucky State Police in Irvine without incident. He was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center where he was charged with 1st Degree Rape.
