Richmond man arrested for second car theft in a week

After being arrested for stealing a vehicle just a week ago, a Richmond man is under arrest again for a similar auto theft.

Police say 40-year-old Robert Kitchens allegedly stole another vehicle last Thursday from the Main Street Gulf gas station. The victim said her Ford Fusion, with a temporary tag, was stolen from the parking lot.

When police arrived in in the area, they spotted the vehicle and attempted to make a stop. That’s when they state Kitchens fled, reaching around 65 miles an hour in a 45-mph zone.

After a short chase through the intersection of Derby Chase and Lexington Road, police say Kitchens finally stopped where he was placed under arrest.

Police say Kitchens admitted he was drunk and stole the car in an attempt to go to Colorado.

Kitchens had been released from jail only six hours prior to this incident for other theft charge regarding a stolen pick-up truck last week from the East Main Marathon station.
