On Sunday evening, Richmond Police Department arrested a man they say committed a carjacking on Jason Drive.
On the afternoon of December 27th, two parties met in the area of Jason Drive to exchange vehicles as part of a Facebook Marketplace sale. While test driving the vehicle, victims stated that the suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Jadon Carter of Richmond, brandished a gun and told the victims to exit the vehicle. An arrest citation claims Carter then drove off, and the victims contacted Madison County Dispatch to report the incident.
A few minutes later, Dispatch received additional calls regarding a hit-and-run collision on Circle Drive where Carter struck another vehicle pulling out of their driveway, then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Residents in the area of Overland Drive reported hearing a gunshot.
Richmond Police Department was assisted by Eastern Kentucky University, Kentucky State Police, and Madison County Sheriff’s Office in forming a perimeter around the area. Officers observed a male fleeing on foot near Merchant and Duckhorn Drives. Once apprehended, Carter was identified and officers located a loaded firearm near him.
Carter was lodged at Madison County Detention Center and charged with Carjacking, Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree, Assault, 4th Degree (Minor Injury), Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Operating on Suspended or Revoked Operator License, Leaving the Scene of an Accident – Failure to Render Aid or Assistance, Using Restricted Ammo During Felony (Shot Fired, No Injury).
