It has been a good week to stay inside and enjoy the air conditioning. The oppressive heat and humidity have limited outdoor events for me. It has been a good week in Richmond with a number of activities around town.
Wednesday, the Rotary Club of Richmond held their weekly meeting at the First Christian Church fellowship hall. A nice catered meal by the Newby Country Store was served with barbecue pork and chicken, green beans, potato salad, and coleslaw. By the way, the Newby Country is now listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The Rotary meeting was the Changing of the Guard. Judge David Ward stepped down as the President, and Chad Aldridge with First Southern was welcomed as the new President.
Thursday, the Richmond Chamber of Commerce held a Member Mingle-After Hours Networking Event at the Dreaming Creek Brewery. It was a pleasure meeting Trey Schadt with Anderson & Rodgers Construction, talking with Luke Thomis with Protactix.net about his son, Warren Thomis who just won the Kentucky Men’s Amateur golf championship and qualified for the 2025 US Amateur Championship in San Francisco at the Olympic Club, and Amanda Hill with Peoples Bank & Trust of Hazard. It was a very interesting Chamber Member Mingle. A video about Madison County Tourism was presented that was produced by Prosper Media Group. Kyle Lake and Laura Stambaugh did an excellent job as the producers and talent. Friday, Alex Miller entertained the locals at the Richmond Centre. Congratulations to Randy Westbrook with the Richmond Area Arts Council on the addition of Alex Miller to the summer music concerts. Also, cheers to Alex Fassas and his crew at Redhead Oil Company for their generous sponsorship. Alex is a dear friend who learned his appreciation of music from his grandfather and shines through in every song and show. Best of luck to Alex and the musicians who contribute to the success of the local music scene.
Saturday was another hot and humid day in central Kentucky. Thank you, Otis Ballard, for inviting me to the First Baptist Men’s Fish Fry. The food was excellent, the fellowship was some of the best, and visiting with ole and new friends was rewarding. Thanks to Ray Cornelison for inviting me to day one of the 2025 ARRL, or the Amateur Radio Relay League, field day at Camp Catalpa. Good luck to all the participants in this competition at the local level. The Central Kentucky Amateur Radio Society holds 7 p.m. monthly meetings on the third Thursday at the Madison County Emergency Center. CKARS invites any and all to join and have some fun.
