As the temperatures begin to drop heading into the Winter months, those without proper outerwear feel it the most. That’s why the Richmond Downtown Neighborhood Association and the Richmond Human Rights Commission have partnered up to host the 2nd annual “Mittens on Millstone Richmond” event. This annual initiative aims to collect winter clothing for individuals in need throughout the Richmond area.
The event will be held at Millstone Park, downtown Richmond, on Thursday, November 13th, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Event organizers say donations of winter clothing can be made at several drop-off locations, with the primary site at City Hall, 239 West Main Street. Other site drop-off locations can be found on both the Richmond Downtown Neighborhood Association and Richmond Human Rights Commission Facebook pages.
During the distribution event, attendees can also enjoy holiday music, refreshments, and the opportunity to support members of our community. Youth groups are encouraged to participate.
The most requested items for the drive include the following in both adult and children sizes:
- Gloves/Mittens
- Hats/Beanies
- Earmuffs
- Scarves
- Thermal Socks
- Sweatshirts/Sweatpants
- Sweaters
- Coats
Donations of cookies, candy and holiday treats are also welcome. Any items not distributed will be donated to Madison Homes, Inc., which operates as an emergency winter shelter.
