Estill County EMA along with Estill Fire & Rescue responded to the New Fox area of Estill County this morning after reports of a gas leak and strong gas smells in the area.
Plans were in motion to start evacuations, when it was discovered that the gas emitting was part of a planned controlled blow off by Columbia Gas, that local officials were not made aware was happening.
Delta Gas is reportedly also planning to do a controlled gas blow off today at the end of Drowning Creek on the Madison County side of the river.
These are planned and overseen operations by the respective companies.
