The Richmond Police Department held their annual Memorial Celebration today for Officer Daniel Ellis, who lost his life in the line of duty on November 5, 2015.
Community members gathered at the Richmond Police station for the annual dedication.
Chief Rodney Richardson talked to his officers about their service and paid special tribute to Officer Ellis. Mayor Robert Blythe reminded everyone in attendance about the sacrifice and service that the Richmond Police Department makes every day to keep Richmond as a safe community.
Mayor Blythe said that “our hearts still ache for Officer Ellis.” Blythe reminded the community the importance of this date and pointed out this date is special to him due to his birthday or November 5, 1949.
He closed the memorial service with a special prayer.
