If you were like many viewers and witnessed the multiple fire and rescue teams from across the County stationed on the overpasses yesterday afternoon, there is a reason.
After 78 years, the US Navy Machinist Mate 1st Class Ulis Steely was brought back to the Commonwealth.
Ulis Steely died at the age of 25 while on the USS Oklahoma on Dec. 7, 1941 when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
His remains were just recently positively identified, and Steely is scheduled to be buried in Whitley County Saturday, Oct. 5.
Berea Rescue and Berea Fire were just some of the first responders that posted about his return on social media, and were set up on each overpass in Madison County as his body was brought through the area.
