The Blue Grass Army Depot will hold a public information session on Wednesday, April 10 at 2:00 PM to discuss the depot’s open burn and open detonation (OB/OD) operations.
The event will take place at the Madison County Joint Information Center, located at 558 S. Keeneland Dr. in Richmond.
During the session, BGAD Commander, Colonel Brett A. Ayvazian, will explain the OB/OD operations at the depot, their purpose, how they are conducted, and the safety measures that are implemented to satisfy the Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection’s regulations and requirements.
“We want to be transparent with our area partners about our OB/OD operations, and this public information session is part of that effort,” said Ayvazian. “Madison County has been a great neighbor to the depot, and we want to make sure that we continue to maintain a good relationship with the community.”
The depot uses open burn and open detonation to dispose of old or unstable munitions stored in its Earth Covered Magazines, also known as “igloos.” All area residents are welcome to join depot leadership and participate in the information session.
