For the first time in almost six years, the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD) will once again open its gates for public hunting.
The depot closed its gates to public hunting in 2018 during chemical operations at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent Pilot Plant. For safety reasons, depot hunting has been limited to employees only since then.
Starting on January 20, 2024, the depot will open its gates for Kentucky’s small game and waterfowl hunting seasons. Area residents who wish to hunt within BGAD’s fence line must visit https://fw.ky.gov/Hunt/Pages/Blue-Grass-Army-Depot-Hunt-Info.aspx and download the BGAD hunt fact sheet and a BGAD hunting application.
Mail applications to the depot, care of Ms. Raysha Childers. Applications must be postmarked by December 11, 2023. There is no fee to apply. A lottery will be held amongst all applicants to choose the final hunting roster. Those selected will be notified and must pay a $25 hunting fee before the hunt.
All hunters must obtain an AIE (security) badge from BGAD’s badging office before the hunting date and must have completed a hunter’s safety course from any state before being permitted to hunt on BGAD.
Individuals interested in hunting on the depot may call 859-779-6038 for more information.
Mail your application to Blue Grass Army Depot, ATTN: Raysha Childers, Natural Resource Specialist, Building S-14, 431 Battlefield Memorial Hwy., Richmond, Ky. 40475-5010
