Press Conference Regarding Radioactive Waste In Estill Today

This afternoon in Irvine, the Concerned Citizens of Estill County announced their preferred solution for the illegally dumped radioactive waste that has been sitting at the local landfill since 2015. The group disagrees with the current solution implemented by the Kentucky Energy and Environment cabinet, which is to leave the radioactive waste where it sits at the Blue Ridge Landfill.

The group, which was formed by former school superintendent Tom Bonny, wishes to have the waste completely removed from the property as it is in close proximity to the high school and residential areas. If the waste is left, Bonny commented today that many will not have peace of mind in Estill County.

Formal comments have been submitted to the cabinet by the group, and they are represented by an attorney in order to fight to get the waste removed.
