Deputies from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office were recently dispatched to investigate a serious injury vehicle crash on South Laurel Road.
Upon arrival at the scene, officials observed two vehicles that were involved in the collision. A mid-size pickup truck had reportedly traveled into the oncoming traffic lane where it struck a smaller hatchback vehicle head-on. The driver of the hatchback was trapped inside their vehicle and had to be extricated. This driver was sent to a nearby medical facility for treatment of their injuries.
Police say the driver of the truck, Benjamin Liford of Corbin, had been observed weaving on the roadway prior to the crash. Officials determined Liford to be under the influence and arrested him. Liford was transported to the Laurel County Correctional Center where he was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence (4th offense).
