Parking spot rage incident at Richmond Meijer results in arrest and gun charges

Parking spot rage incident at Richmond Meijer results in arrest and gun charges

An apparent parking spot situation escalated Wednesday night October 18, 20203, around 9:30.
That’s when Richmond Police were called to the local Meijer store in Richmond on Lantern Ridge Drive, in reference to reports a man had a gun to a woman’s head in the parking lot.

When officers arrived, the victim told police she was trying to back into a parking space when 29-year-old Akiva Carr of Thomasville, Alabama and other occupants of his car began cursing at her.

The victim went on to tell police the man got out and brandished a handgun and approached her. The subject said she was frozen in fear. Carr then allegedly put the gun to the left side of her head.

According to the officer’s report, Carr continued to berate the woman as she went into the store, continuing to curse at her.

Carr told officers he did not have a gun and he was using a cell phone to make the victim think it was a gun. However, upon a search of the vehicle, officers say they found a pistol behind a large speaker in the trunk of the vehicle.

The gun came back as stolen.

Police determined Carr manifested an extreme indifference to the value of human life in the matter and created a substantial danger of serious physical injury to the victim.

He was arrested on scene and taken to the Madison County Detention Center. He’s facing wanton endangerment, first-degree and receiving stolen property of a firearm charges.
