The Narcan debate will not disappear, so WBON-TV went to Director of Madison County EMS Carlos Coyle to set the record straight about the overdose reversal drug. Coyle not only supplied us with the cost and numbers for the amount of doses that have been administered in the first 6 months of 2017, but also replied that it is very vital to remember this is simply a “bandaid” for the drug epidemic.
Coyle explains that Narcan is meant to revive a patient who has overdosed on opioids, and does not in any way “cure” addiction as is sometimes the misconception.
He also reiterates that although it has come to light that some communities will refuse the antidote after a certain amount of calls, but that he and the rest of Madison County EMS will always respond to the call of duty, no matter what the case may be.
