A Paramedic, who lost their life in a fatal helicopter crash Monday evening in Owen County, had close ties to Madison County
James Welsh, and his wife Haley, were both EKU graduates and James was also a former Madison County paramedic. The couple were married at the Chenault Vineyards in Madison County.
Welsh was one of three people killed around 5:30 Monday evening when the helicopter they were in reportedly hit a “guy wire line” and crashed while enroute to pick up a patient.
Corey Waits, a fraternity brother of James Welsh, told WBON-TV9 “James Welsh was a light shining in the dark and the definition of a friend. Such a special person to everyone he came in contact with. He was selfless, kind, hilarious, goofy, smart, loving, and always extended a helping hand. He never met a stranger that he couldn’t get out of their shell. He was a great hero, person, friend, brother, son, husband, and he was going to be a great dad.”
Taylor Billings, along with Waits and other fraternity brothers of James Welsh, have set up a GoFundMe page for Welsh’s widow and unborn child, that has already exceeded $40,000.
Billing tells WBON-TV9 all the money will to them and make a huge impact on his widow and their unborn child’s life.
