One dead following weekend I-75 multi-vehicle collision in Richmond

One juvenile has been pronounced deceased, and another individual has been hospitalized following a multi-vehicle collision on I-75 on Sunday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police were contacted just before 5:30 p.m., in reference to the collision on I-75 near the 83 mile marker northbound in Madison County.

Investigators say traffic on I-75 was heavily congested at the time of the incident. An semi-truck, operated by David Turner, failed to slow down and struck the rear of a pickup truck operated by 33-year-old Rico Brown of Berea. The impact caused the semi-truck to then strike a guardrail and collide with a 2024 Ford F-350 pulling a recreational vehicle, operated by Steven Wohlscheid. As a result of the initial collision, Brown’s pickup was pushed forward and struck the rear of another semi-truck.

As a result of the collision, Rico Brown was transported to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A juvenile passenger in the vehicle was pronounced deceased at a hospital by Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison.

KSP Trooper Douglas Holt is conducting the ongoing collision investigation.
