A man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly attempting to break into a residence in Richmond.
The resident of the house told police that she heard someone “banging” on her back door and attempting to gain entry.
While speaking with the resident, police saw 24-year-old Nicholas Masden walking away from the residence towards a nearby gas station.
The officer made contact with Masden and he reportedly admitted that it was him who attempted to gain entry into the residence. He told police that a “higher power” advised him that he was allowed to stay at the resident’s home. Madsen allegedly knocked on the front door first and when no one answered, he went to the back door and somehow unlocked the storm door. According to reports, he attempted to open the back door but failed to do so as the door was locked.
Upon searching, police located a check belonging to someone else in his pocket. Madsen reportedly advised police that he located the check in a dumpster and was planning to cash it.
Madsen was charged with public intoxication substance (excludes alcohol), second-degree criminal possession of forged instrument, and second-degree attempted burglary.
