Had lunch at Millstone Social Thursday with a high school buddy, his wife, and a few others. My buddy, Tom Mangus, was passing through town with his wife, and Tom wanted a hot brown. After lunch, we drove down to Lake Cumberland to visit Don Lewis and his wife, Debbie.
Don was the best man in Tom’s wedding way back when. Tom left Richmond after college and moved to Wisconsin. A few years later, Don left Richmond and moved to Somerset. Tom has been buying vegetables for most of his adult life, and Don was a radio personality in Somerset.
For the record, Don lives a quiet life off the grid with no internet service and has a beautiful view of Fishing Creek on Lake Cumberland. In addition, Tom is still working and traveling the world. Tom also has more war stories than most which are quite entertaining.
There were seven of us together Thursday evening, and we asked the following questions between laughs. Did our parents sit around at 70 years young and tell crazy stories about getting through high school, streaking, driving around the countryside, and going to the state basketball tournament in Louisville.
All I can say, I should have recorded the conversation. It would have made a great Saturday Night Live skit.
Friday night was the final night of live music at the Richmond Centre and Taste of Richmond. Randy Westbrook did an excellent job scheduling artists again this year to entertain us. Thanks again to Alex Fassas with Redi Mart, Randy Westbrook with the Richmond Area Arts Council, and the Richmond Centre for hosting the music series this past June and July.
The barbecue pulled pork sandwich was delicious, and the cinnamon donuts were a delightful desert. Thanks to all the food trucks and vendors who made the 2025 Taste of Richmond another success story. The weather cooperated with an excellent fall evening on August 1, 2025.
It was great to see Boogie G and the Titanics put on a fantastic show. George Burdette is a crowd favorite almost anywhere, and in his hometown of Richmond, one could tell that George was an excellent choice to close out the RAAC music series. Dan Trisko on lead guitar and vocals as well as Steve Lewis on drums did a fine job with their harmonies and vocal performances. Take time to go see Boogie G and the Titanics if you have not seen them.
