Berea Police and the Madison County Coroner’s office is investigating the apparent murder of 77 year old Margie Berry of Berea.
The incident occurred on Leslie Drive just after midnight on Sunday December 14th.
An intensive manhunt ensued for the suspect. According to Berea authorities and ATL was issued (Attempt To Locate), and the suspect was spotted and pursued through Whitley County and Williamsburg toward Jellico this morning where the pursuit ended..
The suspect then wrecked, and officials say they attempted to talk the suspect out of the car and surrender peacefully. Once officers approached the car, they found the suspect deceased, after taking his own life.
He has been identified as 51-year-old Kevin Berry. He was a former Laurel County Detective with the sheriff’s office, and the son of Mrs. Berry.
