A multi-agency, multi-county pursuit ended Wednesday night July 5, 2023, in Berea. The pursuit started at the Holiday Inn in Williamsburg. There, police say they observed a man parking erratically and approached the man. The police officer requested ID, and the suspect refused and stated he was ‘leaving.’ That began a multi county high speed pursuit by several law enforcement agencies. On at least one occasion, officers say the man tried to run pursuing units off the road and nearly hit cruisers several times. Spike strips were also deployed, but the suspect avoided those in the pursuit.
The suspect, 34-year-old Jacob Taylor of Rochester New York was finally stopped after he exited interstate 75 at the 76 mile marker to Chestnut Street in Berea. According to the citations, Taylor bit two of the officers and made threats to them during the tussle to arrest him. A K9 unit was finally turned loose on Taylor, who assisted him in complying.
According to police records, after being taken to the hospital, Taylor again became combative with officers and had to be subdued again.
Taylor is facing numerous charges including evading, wanton endangerment of a police officer, speeding, resisting arrest, among others.
Corbin and Williamsburg Police Departments, KSP from both London and Richmond Post, and other agencies assisted in the apprehension that resulted in a major show of force Wednesday night in Berea.
