An Eastern Kentucky-based non-profit recently celebrated an impressive milestone. The Mountain Association; which has offices in Berea, Hazard, and Prestonsburg; announced earlier today that it has facilitated 100 solar installations across the Eastern portion of the Commonwealth. The 100th installation comes as the Red River Gorge Visitor Center recently announced their solar installation, complete with Electric Vehicle chargers. According to the non-profit, these projects represent $7.5 million in lifetime savings for small businesses, non-profits, and local governments.
For more than a decade, the Mountain Association has worked with small businesses and organizations to find critical energy savings. They say their energy team provides comprehensive support, from energy audits and financing to technical assistance and grant application support.
“These installations are small projects, but they represent big savings for our clients – and our communities,” said Carrie Ray, Director of Energy Programs at Mountain Association. “Every dollar saved on energy bills is a dollar that can be reinvested in jobs, programs, and services that strengthen our communities.”
According to the Mountain Association, the 100 projects range from small nonprofits lowering overhead costs to local governments freeing up funds for community needs, and small businesses reinvesting into their bottom line.
In addition to solar projects, since their program started in 2008, they have also facilitated more than 280 efficiency upgrades which allow their clients to save $1.3 million every year.
“Reaching 100 installations is just the beginning,” said Ray. “Demand for energy savings is soaring as rates are going up. We’re committed to continuing this work so even more businesses, nonprofits, and public agencies can cut costs, reduce emissions, and take part in building a stronger Eastern Kentucky.”
