Model High School in Richmond has been ranked in the top five high schools in Kentucky for 2021-22. The school released the figures today on social media stating Model High School moved up two spots from the previous accountability ranking in 2019-20 – from 7th in the state to 5th best. The top 5 are:
1. DuPont Manual High – 93.9
2. J. Graham Brown School – 90.7
3. Highlands High School – 90.4
4. Pikeville High School – 88.7
5. Model Laboratory High School – 83.9
Model is the only remaining laboratory school in the state of Kentucky. It is located on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.
Model Laboratory School is home to around 720 students in grades K through 12. Enrollment is open to the public, and families of prospective students may submit an application to attend. Model High School also features a 98% graduation rate with graduating classes racking up millions in college scholarships every year.
It opened its doors on September 11, 1906 (four months prior to the opening of EKU). It was initially organized as a private school to provide its students with facilities and opportunities of a superior level, as a demonstration school to acquaint college students with the methods of teaching, and as a training school to give prospective teachers practical experience in teaching.
