A Green Alert issued Monday evening for a missing Madison County Veteran ended tragically.
The alert involved 45-year-old Nathan Branstutter of Madison County, who was reported missing Monday evening. That search culminated with a large police presence at an apartment complex on Tulip Drive in Richmond Monday night.
That’s where Police say Mr. Branstutter was found deceased at that location.
Police stated earlier Mr. Branstutter was a veteran and may be armed. They urged the public to not approach him during the search.
Family members stated on social media Mr. Branstutter suffered from PTSD. Family and friends both expressed their concern for his wellbeing.
Upon cancelling the Green Alert this morning, Richmond Police issued this statement:
“It is with heavy hearts that we cancel the Green Alert for Nathan Branstutter. Mr. Branstutter was found deceased yesterday evening, just after 6:30 p.m.
Richmond Police send our condolences to the Branstutter Family and all who knew and loved Nathan. As a veteran of the U.S. Military, we are deeply grateful for Nathan’s service to our country, which gives us the freedom to serve and protect our local communities. Regarding the family, we ask that our community respect their privacy and offer their thoughts and prayers in this time of grieving.”
Green Alerts notify the public when a veteran has gone missing and is believed to be in danger.
The Madison County Coroner pronounced Mr. Branstutter deceased on the scene around just before 7 p.m.
