Senate Minoritiy leader Mitch McConnell announced that the Department of Housing and Urban Development will allocate $1,044,020 to Kentucky for the Recovery Housing Program established under Senator McConnell’s Comprehensive Addiction Recovery through Effective Employment and Reentry (CAREER) Act.
Senator McConnell’s CAREER Act, designed to address the devastating impact of substance abuse on America’s workforce, helps connect individuals recovering from substance abuse with career services and stable housing opportunities. The funding announced today will help provide temporary housing for individuals in addiction recovery until they can arrange a more permanent living situation.
Tragically, overdose deaths have increased in Kentucky and around the country over the past two years. The CAREER Act includes provisions written by Senator McConnell to steer federal funds to states like Kentucky with high rates of substance abuse and overdoses. HUD will allocate the funding announced today to the state of Kentucky, which will then select specific funding recipients.
To date, Senator McConnell has secured more than $350 million to combat substance abuse in Kentucky.
