Man wanted for Franklin County murder found hiding in barn

Kentucky State Police Post 12 announced today that they located and arrested a man suspected of murder in Franklin County.

Early this morning, just before 1:30 AM, Troopers say they arrested Steven Girtley inside a barn on his property in Franklin County. Girtley was transported and lodged in the Franklin County Detention Center, charged with one count of murder.

Kentucky State Police had been looking for Girtley since Sunday in connection to a murder that occurred in Franklin County.   On November 9, just before 10:00 PM, Troopers responded to the area of Flat Creek Road in Franklin County in reference to an altercation between Justin Girtley and Steven Girtley.

When officers arrived, they found Justin Girtley was fatally injured with a gunshot wound. The primary suspect in the shooting, Steven Girtley, had fled the residence into a wooded area before troopers arrived on the scene.
