A man was arrested Thursday after stealing a vehicle from a business with a child in it.
The Richmond Police Department responded to Merrick Drive in Richmond, KY, where a female victim told police that her vehicle was stolen and that her 14-year-old stepdaughter was in it. The female victim identified the kidnapper as a male, and armed with firearm.
Police were able to locate the vehicle on I-75 and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop and led police on a chase that ended in Lexington, KY near the area of Richmond Road and Man O’ War.
Upon losing control of the vehicle, the suspect fled on foot and discarded a silver handgun before being taken into custody. The handgun was recovered and found to be a pellet type handgun resembling a real firearm.
No one was injured during the incident, including the juvenile inside the vehicle.
The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Thomas Oxendine from Lexington, KY.
Oxendine was arrested and charged with theft of motor vehicle, kidnapping- minor, wanton endangerment, 1st degree fleeing or evading police, 1st degree tampering with physical evidence, reckless driving, and speeding.
