Madison County Sports Deserves A Thank You

Thank you Madison County athletes.

This past year has certainly been a journey. Growing up in Richmond, Kentucky has offered a unique experience which has ultimately led me to where I am right now — being a local sports broadcaster.

Of course, this is only the start. Visions of being the voice of the Kentucky Wildcats or even working for ESPN are still there, but my time in Madison County isn’t done yet.

What started out as a college internship at WBON-TV has laid the ground work in figuring out what I want to do with my life. My love for sports has always been there, but becoming a local sports anchor has shown me just how important it is to showcase athletes in Madison County.

Having worked with many already through athlete profiles, interviews, and post-game discussions, I’ve discovered how much I enjoy covering each and every one of you. Every athlete has different perspectives, personalities, and passion for the sport they play, but one constant is that they love representing their team.

I’m planning on staying in Madison County for the time being , and I’m already looking forward to the beginning of the upcoming school year and Fall sports.

Thank you Madison County coaches.

You all arguably play the biggest role of anyone. You coach, mentor, and even educate. The Madison County coaches give so much of their time and effort into molding young athletes into champions not only in their respective sport, but also in the rest of their life.

Just like athletes, all coaches can be different. Some are more emotional and some are more reserved, but every coach in this county deserves some of the credit for preparing our athletes for a life beyond high school sports.

Finally, thank you Madison County parents.

Our local athletes get a lot of help from their coaches and teammates, but parents undoubtedly play a role, too. Some of the parents I’ve gotten to meet this year have been pivotal in making sure their child, and the team they’re on, receive coverage. Most of us are aware of the stereotype of “sports parents”, but the parents I have met here want nothing more than to watch Madison County athletics grow.

Being a parent is a hefty commitment in and of itself, but being a parent of an athlete takes extreme dedication for the love of sports and constant support year round. It is only right that kind of love for their child and their team is appreciated.

It really does take a village for local athletics to thrive. Madison County sports have been blessed with great support all around, and it’s evident in the success these county school teams have seen. My goal is to keep doing my best to elevate sports coverage in Madison County and to highlight families, coaches and players who all make this possible.
