Madison County Schools Lead State in Healthy, Locally-Sourced Meals: Even During Summertime

You may not be aware, but here in Madison County the school’s food is leading the state in farm to school products, with the freshest in local produce and meats being fed to the students.

Although school is now out of session, this continues into the summer, according to Madison County Food Service Director Scott Anderson.

Anderson took WBONtv into the kitchen at the new Boonesborough Elementary in Northern Madison County to show the fresh fruits and veggies, as well as the slow cooker for meat.

Anderson explains that every student in the Madison County schools are getting some of the best Kentucky Proud foods across the Commonwealth, as each school has their own chef in charge and a full staff ready to serve the healthiest meals. Anderson also explains that the County goes year-round with the fresh local produce.

Also check out this story where Anderson recently explained the food service bus, which seeks to provide fresh meals to anyone under the age of 18 across the County.

The Madison County Food Service introduced their free food bus to the public this week. People under the age of 18 may eat breakfast, lunch and dinner all summer long. No requirements or questions asked.

The bus will go to Sue Lee drive, Adams Point and Madison Village for lunch and Dixie Plaza, Southern Hills, Lake Reba, Richmond Green for dinner.

Be on the lookout for the brightly painted bus during the summer and bring your kids for a free summer meal!
