The Madison County School System has announced Ben Wilcox as the district’s first Chief of Police. The Board of Education voted this spring to establish the Madison County Schools Police Department and we are excited for how that department will take shape under Chief Wilcox’s leadership. With a career in law enforcement that spans 26 years and includes several “firsts,” we are confident in how the department will take shape under his leadership. Wilcox previously served as a deputy sheriff in Montgomery County assigned as the county’s first School Resource Officer and was appointed as the state’s first State School Security Marshal. His career also includes time as a police instructor at the Department of Criminal Justice Training. More information about the district’s police department will appear on the district’s website during the summer months.
Superintendent Randy Neeley said of the hiring “A lot of time researching, learning, and observing has gone into this decision and we are ready to move forward with what we know is best for our students and staff. Safety for students and staff each day is the thing we worry about most. Having our own department gives us the ability to ensure that every campus is as safe as we possibly can make it. We will continue our wonderful working relationships with our local law enforcement agencies. They have helped us tremendously to this point and are supportive of our efforts. We are excited to have Ben Wilcox serve as our first chief of police. His experience makes him the perfect person to get our department up and running.“
