From a MCHD press release:
The Madison County Health Department supports Governor Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Department of Public Health’s community mitigation measures to help control the spread of COVID-19. Also known as non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), these are actions that people and communities and can take to help slow the spread of illnesses, including COVID-19.
Some familiar preventative measures that you can take include:
- Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water aren’t available.
- Avoiding close contact with people who are sick and stay home if you are sick yourself.
- Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throwing the used tissue in the trash.
- Avoid touching your face and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Keeping surfaces clean
These and other community actions (such as school closures, social distancing and the cancellation of mass gatherings) all will help decrease the burden on our healthcare system, ensuring that all who need will receive it.
