From a release from the County Judge Executive’s Office:
Madison County will be recognizing Firefighter Timothy Schlomann for the heroic actions he portrayed while risking himself in an unknown situation while driving on New Circle Road in Lexington on September 26, 2017.
Firefighter Schlomann witnessed a car driving erratically and followed the car until it stopped at a stoplight. He exited his vehicle, he came upon an impaired driver having a diabetic emergency. He got the keys out of the ignition and stayed at the scene until medical services arrived to take the driver to the hospital.
Schlomann’s actions during this situation showed his commitment to preserving life and property. He had honorable actions that portrayed both personal and professional aspects of integrity, selflessness, and courage in the face of any situation, even if it is while off duty. These qualities reflect highly on him as both a person and firefighter at the Madison County Fire Department.
A statement was given by Captain Jeremy Whitley of the Lexington Fire Department whenever he arrived at the scene to thank Schlomann for how helpful he was in the situation, “Upon our arrival, FF Schlomann was standing back away from the scene. I would not have known what he did if it wasn’t for an LPD officer advising me. As I thanked him, he was humble, courteous and professional, representing the Madison County Fire Department very well.” Schlomann will be given a Meritorious Service Award on Tuesday, November 14, at 9:30am at the Madison County Fiscal Court meeting in Berea.
