Madison County is now declared a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary, as proposed in a resolution that was voted upon in Tuesday’s Fiscal Court meeting.
The 48th County across the state to do so, the sanctuary means that the county will see to it that no 2nd Amendment or gun control laws infringe on the rights of citizens.
Citizens and officials alike showed their support for the resolution during the meeting, saying that it was imperative that the rights of Madison Countians would not be stripped away when it comes to gun laws.
However, as this is simply a resolution, there would be no enforceable law in place until an ordinance is passed aimed at the Federal Government.
This ordinance reads that it would seek to, “Oppose any legislation which restricts the individual right of law-abiding US citizens as protected by the Second Amendment.”
