Several Madison County agencies responded to a single-vehicle accident on I-75 Saturday night.
The crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. near the 91-mile marker northbound. The vehicle left the roadway, traveled approximately 100 feet, and is believed to have flipped before coming to rest on its wheels.
A female passenger from Berea was transported to UK Hospital with head injuries. Her condition is unknown at this time.
The male occupant, believed to be the driver, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased by the Madison County Coroner just before 10 p.m. He has been identified as Jafar Shakur Gresham, 31, originally from Detroit, Michigan.
Richmond Police, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond Fire Department, and Waco Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the scene.
Remaining ice and frozen ground conditions made recovery efforts extremely difficult. The Coroner’s Office expressed appreciation to fire and rescue personnel for their essential assistance in accessing and aiding those involved.
