Local standout Logan Cantrell, a 2025 Madison Central High School graduate, ended his high school wrestling career on a high note Saturday, July 26, by taking 1st place in his division at the Bluegrass State Games in Lexington, KY.
Cantrell, a member of the Madison Central wrestling team and team captain his senior year, secured the gold medal with a string of decisive victories:
- 1st Round: Defeated Trea White (Henry Clay) by decision, 9-4
- 2nd Round: Defeated Austin Brinegar (Harrison County) by pinfall in 2:50 — a major win over a strong opponent with a notable track record
- 3rd Round: Defeated Connor Greenwell (Franklin County) by pinfall in 1:15
The tournament marked Cantrell’s final match as a Madison Central wrestler. He now sets his sights on collegiate competition as he joins Midway University this fall to continue his wrestling career.
Outside of scholastic wrestling, Cantrell is also a blue belt at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Richmond and the reigning 2024 GoodFight World Champion, showcasing his versatility and commitment to combat sports.
“Logan has been a leader in our program both on and off the mat,” said a Madison Central coach. “He’s the kind of athlete every team wants — hardworking, focused, and always looking to improve. His future in wrestling is bright, and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next.”
