Local teen, found deceased Friday in Berea, identified

The identity of the 16-year-old found in Berea Friday, has been identified as Faith Ivy Reed of Berea.

Reeds body was found in a dilapidated structure around nine last Friday morning around near an old walking trail in the vicinity of Slatelick and Boone Streets.

Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison says there were no apparent signs of foul play in her death. The body has been sent to Frankfort for an autopsy. Ivy was a current student at Berea Community High School where she had just completed the 10th grade.

Berea Community Schools sent out this announcement today to assist students deal with the tragic death.

Dear Parents and Students,

We regret to inform you of a tragic loss within our school community. Faith “Ivy” Reed, a sophomore student at BCHS, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 7th, 2023. Coping with death is a challenging matter for anyone. Even if your child did not know Ivy, they may still experience some emotional reactions to hearing about the loss of Ivy. It is crucial for us to express our feelings regarding her passing, particularly our grief and sadness.

We want to inform you that counselors will be present on Wednesday, July 12th and Thursday, July 13th from 9:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at Berea Community School in the Elementary Library. They will be available to support students in processing this news and dealing with their emotions. Our dedicated faculty, staff, and administrators are always available to listen and to lend a helping hand as this is what our community school is founded upon. Please inform school personnel about how we can assist in meeting your child’s individual needs.

Should you wish to attend the funeral, Ivy’s family will receive guests for a time of visitation on Tuesday, July 11th beginning at 6:00 PM. Services will be held following the visitation at 8:00 PM at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main Street, Richmond, KY.
