Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies were recently dispatched to a non-injury collision which occurred near the KY 909 exit ramp on I-75. The incident resulted from an alleged case of road rage.
Before their arrival, deputies say they were advised that the drivers of both vehicles were verbally arguing and that a weapon had possibly been pulled. Authorities located both vehicles involved in the crash, a sports car and a full-size SUV.
Police learned that the driver of the sports car, later identified as Nicholas Denkler, allegedly stated that he let his anger overwhelm him and was “brake-checking” the SUV, attempting to run the driver off of the roadway. According to police, Denkler’s 11 year-old child was in the front passenger seat at the time.
The victim stated that as they attempted to get off of the interstate at Exit 49, Denkler sideswiped him resulting in severe damage to both vehicles and a guard rail. Deputies learned that the victim and Denkler had apparently encountered each other in the construction area of I-75 where the reduced speed of the suspect’s vehicle reportedly angered Denkler.
Denkler was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center where he was charged with two counts of 1st Degree Wanton Endangerment, Improper Passing, Failure to Signal, Failure to Wear Seatbelts, Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, and Failure to Produce an Insurance Card.
