A Tennessee man is currently behind bars in Laurel County following a high-speed pursuit which occurred last night near London.
Officers observed a blue full-size pickup truck weaving along the roadway. A sheriff’s deputy then attempted to initiate a traffic stop near Rooks Branch Road on KY 312.
The arrest citation indicates that the suspect, later identified as Wade Honeycutt of Johnson City, proceeded to pull onto Rooks Branch Road where he momentarily stopped before reportedly beginning to flee at speeds of 83 mph. Police say Honeycutt ran several motorists off the roadway while weaving into the opposing lane. The vehicle turned onto O. Johnson Road where it came to a stop in the middle of the road.
Deputies reported detecting the odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from the driver and conducted an investigation determining that he was under the influence. Honeycutt told police that he believed that he was in Tennessee.
Honeycutt was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, Speeding 26 mph or More Over the Speed Limit, 1st Degree Fleeing or Evading Police (Motor Vehicle), and two counts of 1st Degree Wanton Endangerment. Honeycutt was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
