Two Laurel County parents are behind bars after police discovered them passed out in their home Sunday morning. Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to investigate the London home following a call from one of the children, claiming they were unable to wake their father.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies were met by the child who placed the phone call. Officers were taken into the kitchen where the child’s father, Steven Chandler of London, was reportedly passed out. Police alerted Laurel County EMS officials. EMS were eventually able to wake Chandler, who was then determined by deputies to be under the influence.
During the investigation, authorities discovered the child’s mother, Nila Callahan of London, was also incapacitated in close proximity to various drug paraphernalia items. After awakening Callahan, deputies determined that she was under the influence as well.
Officers located another child present in the residence, whose bed was located approximately 6 feet from an AR–15 style rifle sticking out of a backpack.
Chandler and Callahan were arrested and taken to the Laurel County Correctional Center where they were charged with 1st Degree Wanton Endangerment. Callahan was additionally charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
