Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two individuals early Thursday morning following a complaint about a child laying in the road.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located a female subject, later identified as 21 year-old Destiny McQueen, and determined that she was under the influence.
Deputies located a 5 1/2 month old child laying in the roadway with minimal clothing almost a mile away from where they had located the infant’s mother. Officials noted the temperature being 35 degrees out.
Authorities also noted that while investigating McQueen, she was talking about two children. Deputies were unable to get a proper address from McQueen, but eventually determined a possible residence and proceeded to travel there.
Upon arrival, the father of the child who had been found in the roadway, Michael Augst, and another child in the residence was located. Police determined that the father of the child was also under the influence and noted temperature in the residence being only 60 and summoned EMS to check the welfare of the older sibling. Deputies notified child welfare services to take custody of the children.
McQueen and Augst were both charged with 2nd Degree Wanton Endangerment, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, and Public Intoxication (Controlled Substances). McQueen was additionally charged with 1st Degree Indecent Exposure and 2nd Degree Disorderly Conduct. Augst was also charged with complicity to commit Wanton Endangerment.
