The Kentucky State Police, Post 8 in Morehead, was contacted this morning at around 8:50 a.m. by the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty to conduct a death investigation.
KSP Detectives responded to EKCC after Correctional Officers located Robert A. Broyles, a 34-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky, unresponsive in his cell during morning count. Life saving measures were attempted while Mr. Broyles was being transported to ARH Hospital in Morgan County, but were unsuccessful.
Mr. Broyles was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital. The preliminary investigation reveals that foul play is suspected, but this is subject to change as the investigation continues.
The ongoing investigation is being lead by Detective Matt Martin. KSP was assisted on scene by the Morgan County Ambulance Service.
